The History of Sala Lanta

Our family’s story at Sala Lanta starts back in 1999, a time when Koh Lanta was just beginning to welcome more visitors. Electricity had only recently been introduced to the island and life here was very simple. My parents, looking for a way to make a living, started with a very small noodle shop. This was our family’s first step into the world of food. As time passed, my mother with her love for cooking, began to include a more variety of dishes such as rice and curries. These dishes quickly became favourites among both the locals and tourists. In 2002 this venture grew to become “Aunt Sith’s Curry Shop”, a place that grew from a family’s love for food and community. From these small beginnings, our family’s dedication and passion for food helped our little noodle shop grow into the Sala Lanta in Town restaurant you see today.
The growth of our restaurant took a significant turn with the arrival of Executive Chef Nueang, whose expertise enhanced our dishes’ taste, sauces and presentation, without losing the essence of Thai cuisine. This evolution led to our appearance on ‘Khrua Khun Toi’, Thailand’s renowned cooking show, where we showcased local seafood sourced directly from Urak Lawoi fishermen. This exposure elevated our restaurant’s status, particularly among Thai tourists, leading to our current establishment, ‘Sala Lanta in Town’. Our history is not just about serving food; it’s a story of adapting, growing and sharing the authentic flavours and stories of Koh Lanta with every dish we create.
Now, Sala Lanta not only offers delicious meals and drinks but also provides essential services like motorbike hire and travel tours, meeting many needs of our visitors to Koh Lanta.
